Quiz Builder Guide
This guide provides a comprehensive overview of the Quiz Builder in ClassCraft AI. This tool generates interactive quizzes with multiple question types — including single answer, multiple answer (select all that apply), and true/false — with built-in editing, reordering, and export to Moodle, Canvas, and more.
Note: This tool replaces the older Multiple Choice Questions generator with a more flexible editor and broader export options.
Overview of Features
- Multiple Question Types: Generate single answer, multiple answer (select all), and true/false questions in a single quiz.
- Unit Integration: Search for SQA units by name or code, or upload a PDF unit specification to contextualise questions.
- Inline Editing: Edit questions, answers, and feedback directly in the browser. Add, remove, or reorder questions with drag controls.
- Answer Feedback: Every answer includes educational feedback explaining why it is correct or incorrect.
- Flexible Export: Download as DOCX, QTI (for Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace, and more), or Moodle XML — or copy to clipboard with full formatting.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Configuration
- Navigate to the Quiz Builder from your dashboard.
- Optional: Use the unit search box to find a specific SQA unit by name or code.
- e.g.,
Software Development (J1BS 35)orFM4335.
- e.g.,
- Enter a subject or topic to focus the questions on. Examples include:
Outcome 2Data structures and algorithmsHealth and safety legislation
- Select the number of questions to generate.
- Choose which question types to include:
- Single Answer — traditional multiple choice with one correct answer.
- Multiple Answer (Select All) — two or more correct answers; students must identify all.
- True / False — a statement the student marks as true or false.
- All Types — a balanced mix (roughly 60% single, 25% multiple, 15% true/false).
Tip: Selecting all question types creates a more varied assessment that tests different levels of understanding.
2. Generation Process
- Click Generate to start.
- A progress indicator will show the current status. Generation typically takes 15–30 seconds depending on the number of questions.
Important: If the process takes longer than 60 seconds, refresh the page and try again.
Reviewing and Editing Your Quiz
Reviewing Questions
Once generated, each question is displayed as a card showing:
- The question text
- All answer options with correct answers highlighted
- The question type label (Single / Multiple / True-False)
- Per-answer feedback
Editing Questions
Click Edit Quiz to enter the inline editor. From here you can:
- Edit question text and individual answer text directly.
- Change the question type using the dropdown on each question card.
- Add or remove answers (between 2 and 8 per question).
- Toggle correct answers by clicking the checkbox next to each option.
- Edit feedback for each answer to explain why it is correct or incorrect.
- Reorder questions using the up/down arrow buttons.
- Delete questions you don't need.
Tip: The editor validates your quiz in real time. Incomplete questions (e.g., missing correct answers or blank fields) are highlighted so you can fix them before exporting.
Adding New Questions
You can expand your quiz at any time from within the editor:
- Add Manually: Click Add Question to insert a blank question card. Choose the question type, write the question text, add your answer options, mark the correct answer(s), and fill in feedback — all directly in the editor.
- Generate with AI: Click Generate Questions to have the AI create additional questions based on the same unit and topic. New AI-generated questions are appended to your existing quiz, so you can mix hand-written and AI-generated questions in a single assessment.
Tip: Use AI generation to quickly build the bulk of your quiz, then add a few manual questions targeting specific areas you know your students struggle with. This gives you a tailored assessment without starting from scratch.
Click Save Changes when you're done editing.
Export Options
The Quiz Builder supports four export formats, plus copy-paste:
| Format | Description | Best For |

- Answer Feedback: Built-in feedback turns every question into a learning opportunity, not just a test. Students understand why an answer is correct, reinforcing key concepts.
- Outcome Alignment: Generating questions against specific unit outcomes ensures your assessment directly measures what students are expected to learn.
- Formative Use: Use shorter quizzes (5 questions) as low-stakes knowledge checks during class to identify gaps before summative assessment.
