This guide provides a comprehensive overview of the Multiple Choice Questions Generator in ClassCraft AI. This tool allows educators to quickly create multiple-choice questions, including Moodle-compatible GIFT formats. The tool is particularly suited for creating formative and summative assessments, with added features to customise question focus and outcomes.

Note: This tool may have longer generation times and could silently retry or fail due to extensive validation requirements. Improvements are on the roadmap.

Step-by-Step Instructions​

1. Configuration​

  1. Navigate to the Multiple Choice Questions Generator.
  2. Optional: Use the search box to find a specific unit/module by name or code.
    • e.g., Approaches to Mental Health (J38V 35).
  3. Specify a focus, topic, or outcome. Examples include:
    • Outcome 1
    • Photosynthesis
    • Basics of Python
  4. Select the number of questions (5 or 10).

Tip: Align your focus with the most critical learning outcomes to enhance assessment relevance.

2. Generation Process​

  • Click Generate to start the process.
  • A progress bar will indicate the status. This step may take longer due to the tool’s validation processes.

Important: If the process takes longer than 30 seconds, refresh the page and try again.

Reviewing and Exporting Results​

Reviewing Questions​

Once the questions are generated:

  • View a preview of each question, including options and correct answers.
  • Validation: The tool validates GIFT format structure silently in the background.

Note: If the correct number of questions or format requirements aren’t met, the tool silently retries.

Export Options​

  • Download TXT: Exports questions as a plain text file.
  • Download GIFT: Exports questions in Moodle-compatible GIFT format.

    • Important: GIFT is a format, not a file extension. The download will be a .txt file containing the GIFT format.

    • This format can currently only be used with Moodle. Additional LMS formats are in development.

Troubleshooting Common Issues​

  1. Long Generation Times

    • This tool involves complex validation steps, which can extend generation times. If it takes longer than 30 seconds, refresh the page and try again.

  2. Silent Failures

    • In cases of format validation failure, the tool retries automatically. If no questions are displayed after a retry, repeat the process.

  3. Incorrect Question Count

    • Ensure the focus or outcome field is specific enough to generate the desired number of questions.

Example Usage​

Scenario​

You are creating a quiz for a unit titled Approaches to Mental Health (J38V 35), focusing on Outcome 1. You need 5 questions in GIFT format for Moodle.

  1. Select the unit: Approaches to Mental Health.
  2. Specify focus: Outcome 1.
  3. Choose the number of questions: 5.
  4. Click Generate and wait for the response.
  5. Review the generated questions and download them in GIFT format.
  6. Refer to the Moodle Import Guide to import the file into Moodle.
