Customising Crafting Actions

Build your own content creation workflows by customising actions to match your specific teaching needs. Create repeatable processes that generate consistent, high-quality educational materials lesson after lesson.

Why Customise Actions?

Creating Your Teaching Workflow

Customisation allows you to establish standardised processes for content creation. Instead of manually creating similar resources repeatedly, you can design actions that automatically generate materials in your preferred format and style.

For example, you might create a custom action called "Weekly Video Analysis" that always generates the same style of critical thinking questions, or "Daily Discussion Starter" that creates consistent warm-up activities following your classroom format.

Accessing Customisation

Opening the Action Manager

  1. Generate content using any supported tool with crafting capabilities
  2. Locate the "Craft Your Content" section below your generated material
  3. Click the "Customise" button in the top-right corner of the crafting section
  4. The Action Manager will open in a new window

Managing Existing Actions

Viewing Your Actions

The "Manage Actions" tab shows all available actions for your current tool, including:

  • Default Actions: Built-in actions provided by ClassCraft AI
  • Custom Actions: Actions you've created yourself
  • Modified Actions: Default actions you've edited

Each action shows:

  • The action name and description
  • Whether it creates supplementary content or replaces existing content
  • The action type (Default, Custom, or Modified)

Reordering Actions

  1. In the Action Manager, go to the "Manage Actions" tab
  2. Drag and drop action cards to reorder them
  3. The order you set here determines how actions appear in your crafting section
  4. Changes are saved automatically

Editing Actions

  1. Find the action you want to modify
  2. Click the "Edit" button on the action card
  3. Modify any of the following:
    • Action Name: Change how the action appears in your interface
    • Description: Update the helper text that explains what the action does
    • AI Instructions: Modify what you want the AI to do with your content
    • Action Type: (For non-YouTube tools) Choose whether to replace or supplement content
  4. Click "Update Action" to save your changes

Hiding Actions

  1. Find an action you no longer want to see
  2. Click the "Hide" button on the action card
  3. The action will be removed from your crafting interface
  4. To restore a hidden action, click "Show" when viewing hidden actions

Deleting Custom Actions

  1. Locate a custom action you've created
  2. Click the "Delete" button on the action card
  3. Confirm the deletion when prompted
  4. Note: You can only delete actions you've created yourself

Best Practices

Creating Effective Custom Actions

Be Specific with Instructions

  • Clear, detailed instructions produce better results
  • Specify the format you want (e.g., "Create a numbered list of 5 items")
  • Include any special requirements or constraints

Choose Descriptive Names

  • Use names that clearly indicate what the action does
  • Avoid vague terms like "Enhance" or "Improve"
  • Consider how the name will appear to other users if you share your setup

Test Your Actions

  • Try your custom actions with different types of content
  • Refine the instructions based on the results you get
  • Don't hesitate to edit and improve your actions over time

Organising Your Workflow

Prioritise Frequently Used Actions

  • Move your most-used actions to the top of the list
  • Hide actions you rarely or never use
  • Create custom actions for tasks you do repeatedly

Group Related Actions

  • Organise actions by purpose (e.g., assessment, activities, resources)
  • Consider creating variations of successful actions for different contexts
  • Keep your action list manageable - quality over quantity

Maintenance Tips

Regular Review

  • Periodically review your custom actions and their effectiveness
  • Update instructions based on improved AI capabilities
  • Remove or modify actions that no longer serve your needs

Backup Important Actions

  • Keep notes about your most successful custom action instructions
  • Document any particularly effective prompts for future reference
  • Consider sharing successful actions with colleagues

Action Manager Features

Smart Saving

  • All changes are automatically saved as you make them
  • No need to manually save your work
  • Changes apply immediately to your crafting interface

Tool-Specific Customisation

  • Customisations apply only to the specific tool you're working with
  • YouTube tool customisations don't affect lesson plan tools, and vice versa
  • Each tool maintains its own set of available actions

Personal Customisation

  • Your customisations are private to your account
  • Other users won't see your changes or custom actions
  • You can experiment freely without affecting anyone else's experience

Troubleshooting Customisation

Common Issues

Custom action not working

  • Check that all required fields are filled in
  • Ensure your AI instructions are clear and specific
  • Try testing with different content to identify the issue

Changes not appearing

  • Refresh your browser page
  • Check that you're in the correct tool (customisations are tool-specific)
  • Ensure you clicked the save button for your changes

Action producing unexpected results

  • Review and refine your AI instructions
  • Test with simpler content first
  • Consider breaking complex instructions into multiple actions

Getting Better Results

Improve AI Instructions

  • Be specific about format, length, and style
  • Include examples of what you want when possible
  • Avoid overly complex or multi-part instructions

Refine Based on Results

  • Edit actions that don't produce the results you want
  • Try different phrasings if the AI misunderstands your intent
  • Start simple and add complexity gradually

Conclusion

Customising your crafting actions allows you to tailor the ClassCraft AI experience to your specific teaching needs and workflow. By creating custom actions, organising your interface, and refining your setup over time, you can build a powerful toolkit that enhances your content creation process.
